#RASTAN ARCADE GAME HOW TO#
I’d realized that I did not know how to play the game at all. I’d worked my courage the 2nd time and marched right over to the warrior sitting on his throne and pushed the 1 Player start button. I don’t remember what I’d said to her, but she just told me go play at the arcades. At age 7, I was frightened and ran back to my mom in the grocery store. As I inserted the quarter into the machine, I heard a gong sound and what appeared to be a mean-looking warrior staring back at me. When it was time to work up my courage to finally play the game, I had asked my mom for a quarter (games were a quarter to play back then). This game catered to left-handed players too. Most arcade systems were built for right-handed players. Little did I realized that the other 2 buttons were just mirrored of the opposite side. I had never experienced a game with more than 2 buttons. The buttons were intimidating because they looked very complicated, especially for a 7 year old. After watching the demo play, it looked like a really neat game because it reminded me of Conan The Barbarian movie. Some of the games I can recall included Altered Beast, Golden Axe, Cabal, Dynasty Warriors, Ninja Gaiden, Final Fight, Rastan, POW, Shinobi, Street Fighter II, Mortal Kombat, and Vigilante. Most, if not all have become classic in today’s time. From time to time, the store would remove the old arcades and replace them with new arcades after a few months. There were at least 3 arcades standing at one time. I still remember the type of games that they had. Whenever she goes there, I get myself excited not because I wanted to pick out groceries for her or get some candy for myself, but because there were arcades in the store. There was a Super A Foods near where I lived. Moms find that the arcade spot provided a way for their kids to pass the time without getting themselves into trouble. Back in the 80’s and 90’s, the time period when I grew up, grocery stores and convenient stores had arcades where parents can do their shopping while their young ones stayed in one spot playing video games.
